What is Athens without its food? Well, an Athens I don't want to live in. Food isn't just something that makes Athens desirable, though. Local restaurants, edibles, and distributors As a foodie, all of the selections on this list are very dear to me. Food that creates emotion is a great gift - seriously, I would ask for all of these.
I'm a cheese lover, so I couldn't resist when I found out that Treehouse sells goat cheese kits (my favorite kind - we were meant to be). Teaching a friend how to make cheese is just as good as teaching a man how to fish, and I'm sure one day that cheese will come back to you. Speaking of cheese, the Savannah Bee Co. honey would be a nice touch on a cheese plate - or in tea, on top of yogurt, you name it. I fell in love with curry ketchup years ago. It probably wouldn't taste good with cheese (unless they're both on a burger), but it does taste great on hot dogs.
Of course, I wasn't going to be an idiot and leave out any local food. The holidays are the perfect time for carbohydrates, and Independent Baking Co. makes my favorite bread in Athens. Local favorites Phickles pickles are a great gift because they can last a long time - well, if your happy recipient doesn't eat them all at once. A box of Little Cuckoo chocolates will surely make the sweet tooth in your life smile.
Happy shopping and happy eating!
